Druidry is a modern spiritual and philosophical movement that emphasizes a deep, reverent connection to nature, environmental stewardship, and the pursuit of wisdom. It encourages mysticism, creativity, and honoring the cycles of the Earth.
Modern Druidry emerged in the 18th century as part of a Romantic revival of Celtic history. While ancient Druids were the priestly class of the Iron Age Celts, modern Druidry is an inclusive, worldwide nature-based path.
-
- Reverence for Nature: The Earth and its seasons are viewed as sacred. Druids focus on honouring the flora, fauna, and physical landscapes around them.
- Divine Inspiration: Central to the path is the concept of Awen (a Welsh word for flow or divine inspiration).
- Diverse Theology: Modern Druidry is not a rigid dogma. Followers range from Pagans and polytheists to Christians and atheists.
- Ritual & Celebration: Druids regularly celebrate the changing seasons (often through the Wheel of the Year), meditation, and connecting with the spirits of the land.
THE THREE BRANCHES OF STUDY
Many organizations structure their teachings and personal development into three distinct streams:
- The Bard: Focuses on creativity, the arts, poetry, and storytelling.
- The Ovate: Focuses on healing, divination, and the study of the natural world.
- The Druid: Focuses on wisdom, philosophy, and spiritual leadership.
